The Bromley Boy Singers

About Us

The Bromley Boy Singers was founded in 1977 by Brian Lamble and soon established a reputation for the quality, variety and enthusiasm of its performances. The choir has sung in the Purcell Room, the Fairfield Halls, the Royal Albert Hall, the Barbican Centre, in Canterbury and Southwark cathedrals and at Cambridge University. The boys have toured in Provence, the Netherlands, Malta and in England. The choir has a wide repertoire of classical and modern music and maintains a special interest in the vocal works of Benjamin Britten. Their costume productions include Britten’s The Golden Vanity and Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienna. New music has been commissioned by the choir. Michael Hurd wrote a set of short songs, Nine of Anon, and Jean Hasse has recently written a couple of pieces specially for the BBS.

The Mayor's Christmas Ball

2006

This has been a year of development for the choir with its new director, Travis Baker. The choir has carried out a series of performances at private functions in Bromley and Westerham and joined forces with a school choir from Claygate for a Summmer concert.
The highlight of the summer was a concert at St Francis, West Wickham sponsored by the Rotary Club which was well attended.
Christmas saw three concerts for the choir culminating in the now regular lunchtime concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields which had a packed church despite all the building work.

2005

Concerts have been presented locally at St George’s, Beckenham and at St Francis of Assisi, West Wickham. In July, families and friends of BBS gathered for the traditional summer concert and social at which presentations were made to thank Richard Apsley for his ten years of service to the choir. Richard Apsley was the Director of the Bromley Boy Singers from 1995 to 2005. Under his leadership the choir has gone from strength to strength, performing an ever-increasing variety of engagements. We have also benefited from the expertise of Associate Director, David Gostick, who had responsibility for the choir during the 2004 – 2005 season.

Looking Ahead

In September 2005, Travis Baker took up the reins as Director of the Bromley Boy Singers. His style has already started to have an impact on the choir and plans for the future include more exciting holiday courses to help the choir feel more like a team.

Next year will see our 30th anniversary. Plans are now under way to celebrate in style!

Travis is very keen to increase the numbers of boys in the choir so that the range of events undertaken can be increased.
